This week was an older lady modelling, and I wanted to focus more on accuracy. So wanting a more defined and bold line, I experimented with the free Pigment fine liner I got from Cult Pens which I’d not used. I really liked the drawings I did with it, so I’m definitely getting some more! Probably not purple though.
I also did some drawings with graphite sticks I’ve had for probably nearly three decades and never really used…I really prefer it to pencil.
I did quite a few drawings of the same pose, so you can see the difference between charcoal, a cheap Flying Tiger fine liner pen and graphite, like the back view below. Different media lends itself to different marks, tonalities and approaches.
And of course, I’m still doing a ‘sounding’ sketch first on longer poses – on both I think the graphite or pencil sketch (not shown) was the first one.
Looking back I think this was one of the more successful weeks, one of my colleagues joked that I don’t do accurate the week before and I thought ‘I’ll show you!’. Also the model liked some of my drawings, which was a first!
