Abstracts

All my abstract works – there is some overlap with the Graffiti and Ink galleries, but this is the home for the pure mostly non-figurative abstracts, in ink, acrylic, spray paint, stencils and watercolour. I also do abstract landscapes, which start as abstract drawings and then become landscapes after.

Incidentally the abstract pen drawings with small repeated figures and shapes go back to when I was a kid, I’d doodle and draw Klee-like figures and shapes on my parent’s lined computer paper…before I ever knew who Klee was. But these are much more than doodles, as child-like some of my pieces are they have subconcious or layered meanings, like Klee I am working on decoding that symbology.

So you’ll see the ‘sun’ with rays, planet symbols, spirals usually meaning spiralling/depression or mood, crossed out squares and slashes circles which is a no entry/denial sign, and others I have no idea what they meant yet: crosses/Xs, zig zags/Zs, repeated curves and serpentine curves, figure 8/infinity symbols, white hourglass symbol which I was using before Extinction Rebellion became big. These symbols come and go. It’s a bit like automatic drawing, really. Taking a line for a dance.
