The Hollow Tree #1, Watercolour and Conte Crayon, A3

Dead Tree Series

A series of works mostly of dead trees or tree ‘portraits’ (and landscapes!) . I’ve been obsessed by the nature of dead trees – and those that are ‘zombie’ trees (half dead and half alive, fallen trees that are still living) – for a long time. The symbology of the tree is a common one amongst all cultures, and mixing in mortality and also hope and perseverance of nature is something I’m interested in. This is a mixture of works in watercolour, charcoal, conte crayon, quill/pens and plein-air oils.
