Night Work

When the darkness takes you
With her hand across your face
Don’t give in too quickly
Find the thing she’s erased

Find the line, find the shape
Through the grain
Find the outline, things will
Tell you their name
The table
The guitar
The empty glass
All will blend together when
Daylight has passed

Suzanne Vega – Night Vision

I have been painting and drawing at night since early 2019, as I am obsessed with the nature of light at the time of day most people don’t think to pay attention to it. I’ve always been fascinated by shadows cast by streetlights and the orange/brown glow and dark blues and purples of the skies.

A subset of the watercolour landscapes and an intersection or thing that informed my Dark Mode series, they have a very different feel to either of those.
