Life Drawing #3

It seems the honeymoon period is over, and this was an odd week where I wasn’t happy with anything I did…some failures which was to be expected, happens occasionally (not that I post most of them here!) but not many successes either, it all seemed a bit, well, meh.

More Posca pens (Cultpens: yay! Gave me a free pen as well and some sweeties…I’m easily bought with free candy), but annoyingly my Liquitex pens ordered at the same time with life drawing friendly shades didn’t arrive til the day after the life drawing session. The art supplier gave some crap excuse and non-apology, Bank Holiday basically, but as John always says: I’m not a bank? And Cultpens managed fine from South Devon – I told them that. I won’t be using them again.

Also tried ink brush and wash, that went well, ink pen and watercolour less so (abandoned the other one) and the usual charcoal -realised I much preferred the lines from real charcoal to the compressed sort.  I need to work on my hands, too, although I was focusing more on proportion this time, after the Old Father Thames farrago.

I really want to draw some men though, it’s been 3 weeks almost in a row with female models…I sadly had to miss the week they had a bloke in cos I was going out to dinner with an old friend.

Maybe that’s why I just didn’t get ‘into’ it, and struggled to find enthusiasm for painting or drawing another woman lying on the floor? Apparently the Tuesday morning class has a lot more male models, but I’m not good with mornings…maybe.

EDIT: The photos above don’t totally reflect what they look like…cos well, I used gold and silver and it reflects too much light. Here are some taken at an angle…
