Life Drawing #26 – Ash

The previous weeks until last week have been pretty much slim pickings, so good to get my mojo back. This week was Ash, and I’ve just gotten some black to white shading pastels (seen first here) and found I had some Canford black card left, so did some pastel work on it, in reverse fashion. Love the naive/primal nature of some of these, and a challenge to work on black paper, strange to work inverted.

Also carried on with the watercolour – really proud of the skin tone in the free-form (no sketch) watercolour as the top featured image and also did a pen and watercolour which you can see above. I love the more abstract one I did with brighter colours too, from behind.

Also did some charcoal and conte pencil, proud of this one, and how I depicted some of the side/behind face views, something I struggle with usually. Again I like the abstract/naive nature of some of the quick conte pencil drawings above, working more quickly and boldly. Quite often my favourite drawings aren’t the ones chosen by the models, other artists or even you, the audience, usually the more representational ones – but these ones less hung up on those things, breaking free of that.
