Life Drawing #44 – Hugh

I’ve drawn Hugh before, at least 2 or 3 times, and it was a really hot day with bus meltdown so we had only a few people in, which made it a nice small friendly session rather than the cramped together muddle that will kick in from September…Did some really nice ink/quill drawings this time, a nice charcoal which Hugh liked (the one with the white chalk) a few more for the Negative Space series.

This one (below) showed the difficulty of this technique, if I’d rubbed off all the masking I’d have ended up with no face left! It’s sad because in some ways I preferred this drawing pre-rubbing (like the one I did the week before where I showed you the before and after), but I also like the chaotic breaking-up nature which seems to express fragility, age and mortality.
