A good session of ink works with Rosalyn, especially because we are finally in October and this was during Inktober so you might have seen one picture from this session ‘Dizzy’ below which I included in that challenge. But now you can finally see the rest of this session it came from. Two more good large Dark Series pieces – including a rare hybrid with the Negative Space series to see if that works on the black gesso as featured above and at the bottom of the page. Mixed feelings of that one – like the idea of black lines come back to the fore, but again, had to be careful around the face as I was happy with what was already there.
A nice ink brush painting which shows my interest in Chinese and Japanese ‘sumi-e’ which also expressed itself during Inktober. Also a couple of nice 5 minute sketches – the purple Woody one above which has real motion, and the Derwent XL one below.
And unusually a Dr PH Martin ink piece on white paper above – you can see how intense those colours are, and why I work on black because otherwise in the time I am fighting to tone it down! I like the turquoise and blue drips in this, and with the white managed to get some vague approximation with skin tone. It is possible as you can see from my still life ink paintings using Bombay inks, just not in 20 minutes!
